Official Minutes of the March 19, 2015 Council Meeting

Approved by the City Council April 2, 2015

 

The council meeting was called to order by Mayor Rozier with Reverend Tom Carruth giving the invocation.   Councilmembers Griffin, Grizzard, Kerby, Key, Myrick, Otto, Attorney Raymond Dickey, City Administrator Charles Akridge and Asst. City Clerk Diane Proudfoot were present. 

 

Councilman Myrick made a motion to approve the draft copy of the minutes of the March 5, 2015 council meeting.  Councilman Grizzard seconded the motion and it passed without opposition.  Councilman Grizzard made a motion to approve the agenda of the March 19, 2015 meeting with the addition of an executive session to discuss personnel, litigation and real estate.  Councilwoman Key seconded the motion and it passed without opposition. 

 

Administrative & Committee reports:

 

Councilwoman Griffin reported:

Softball, soccer, baseball season has begun;

A meeting was held this week with the engineer to stake out the area for the upcoming Multi-Purpose Facility/Gym which will be on the lot adjacent to the park;

Encouraged everyone to come out and support the recreation department! 

 

Councilman Grizzard reported that the annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, March 28 from 11:00am – 2:00 at the Community Building.

 

City Administrator Akridge reported:

The Savannah Auction Exchange at #300 W. Hwy 80 will hold a Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting on Saturday, March 21 at 5:00-7:00pm

Lewis/Clarke Circus will be at Taylor Park March 25 & 26 with shows at 5:00pm & 7:00pm

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

  1. Consider Dedication of the Public Works Building in honor of Fett (Buddy) Burke.   Prior to the vote Mayor Rozier recognized the Burke family and gave a brief description of Buddy’s work history with the Public Works Department and acknowledge the bronze plaque on display which would be installed on the Public Works Building in his honor.  Councilwoman Key made a motion to dedicate the Public Works Building in honor of Fett (Buddy) Burke.  Councilman Gizzard seconded the motion and it passed without opposition.
  2. Consider Site Plan submitted by Trotter General – Dennis Trotter for the proposed development of a 70x130 Dollar General Retail store to be located at #208 E. Hwy. 80.  Mayor Rozier recognized Dennis Trotter who stated they are ready to bring their store into the City of Bloomingdale and acknowledge they were in agreement with the request from the Planning Commission to install a 5’ sidewalk on their property.  Councilman Myrick made a motion to support the Planning Commission recommendation and approve the site plan.  Councilwoman Griffin seconded the motion and it passed without opposition.  Mr. Trotter gave a proposed date of opening to be late August provided the weather is good.    

 

Councilman Kerby made a motion to adjourn into executive session to discuss personnel, litigation and real estate issues.  Councilman Otto seconded the motion and it passed without opposition. 

 

At the conclusion of the executive session, Councilman Myrick made a motion to return to regular session and execute the affidavit as required by Georgia Open Meetings Laws.  Councilman Grizzard seconded the motion and it passed without opposition. 

 

Mayor Rozier reported that this concluded the items presented for consideration for inclusion on the Council agenda prior to the deadline of Wednesday, March 11, 2015.

 

The accounts payables were presented with Councilman Myrick making a motion to pay the bills, Councilman Otto seconded the motion and it passed without opposition.

 

There being no further business, Councilman Myrick made a motion to adjourn at 8:13pm.  Councilwoman Griffin seconded the motion and it passed without opposition.
