Called Council Meeting
August 24, 2006
7:30pm
Mayor Tipton called the meeting to order.
The first item of business was the Keep Georgia Beautiful Grant Application as presented by Mary Mitchell for council’s consideration. The application must be submitted by September 1, 2006. Ms. Mitchell had advised the Mayor and Councilman Rawlings that the grants were between $1,000 & $5,000, but would not require any matching funds from the City. The beautification programs planned are for improvements at Taylor Park and at the Community Building. Councilman Rawlings made a motion to approve the submission of the grant application, Councilman Ray seconded the motion and it passed with six affirmative votes.
Council then discussed the fire protection contract issues. A lengthy discussion was held about fire protection for the City and possible options available to the City for this service. After this discussion, council agreed to extend the existing contract until September 30, 2006 and pay the fire department $10,000 for the 90 day period once the documents are executed and the proper insurance information is presented to the City.
Being no further business, Councilman Waller made a motion to adjourn. Councilman Ray seconded the motion and it passed with six affirmative votes.
Mayor Tipton and all councilmembers were present at the meeting.
