CALLED COUNCIL MEETING
May 27, 2003
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro-tem Johnson who stated that the purpose of the meeting was to review and discuss the police chief applications and other personnel matters.
Councilman Waller made a motion to adjourn into executive session. Councilman Myrick seconded the motion and it passed with four affirmative votes.
A copy of the affidavit required by the Open Meeting Law is attached.
After discussion of the applications was completed, Councilman Waller made a motion to return to regular session. Councilman Ray seconded the motion and it passed with four affirmative votes.
Councilman Ray then made a motion to approve selection of the six applicants as discussed in the executive session as finalists for the police chief’s position and to proceed with the scheduling of interviews. Councilman Wedincamp seconded the motion and it passed with four affirmative votes. Members agreed that the interviews should be schedule for the next two Monday nights – June 2nd & June 9th.
Councilman Myrick advised council that in previous discussions regarding the Court Administrator’s position it was agreed that this employee should report to the personnel committee as does the City Clerk. He pointed out that one reason for this decision was that these two departments are responsible for the handling of funds and should be reporting directly to the Personnel Committee. After additional discussion, Councilman Myrick made a motion to have the Court Administrator under the direct supervision of the Personnel Committee. Councilman Ray seconded the motion and it passed with four affirmative votes.
Being no further discussion, Councilman Waller made a motion to adjourn, Councilman Ray seconded the motion and it passed with four affirmative votes.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15pm.
