2019 Chatham County Hurricane Preparedness Week
Sunday, May 5 - theme †"Determine Your Risk". Take time now to evaluate what you need to do to better protect your home and family prior to hurricane season and before any storm begins heading our way. Chatham County is at a high risk for hurricanes and tropical storms, so do not wait to prepare!
Monday, May 6 - theme "Develop an Evacuation Plan!" Do you live in Chatham County? If so, do you know your evacuation zone? Take the time today to learn your zone and also your possible evacuation routes!
Tuesday, May 7 - theme "Assemble Disaster Supplies!" Do you have enough non-perishable food, water and medicine to last each person in your household five to seven days? Do you know what supplies you need? Check out www.chathamemergency.org for a suggested list of items to include. Donít forget pet supplies, too!
Wednesday, May 8 - theme "Get an Insurance Checkup." Whether you are a renter or a homeowner, take time today to call your insurance agent to ensure you have enough coverage for your belongings and/or your home. You donít want to find out you arenít covered AFTER the storm hits! Also, consider Flood Insurance for your home as well- remember it takes 30 days to process! Don't wait until Hurricane Season is here to sign up.
Thursday, May 9 - theme "Strengthen Your Home." Make sure your home is in good shape and capable of sustaining strong winds. Also, now is the time to take a look at the trees surrounding your home as well.
Friday, May 10 - theme† "Help Your Neighbor." Many Americans rely on their neighbors after a disaster, but there are also many ways you can help your neighbors before a hurricane approaches. Get to know your neighbors before an emergency strikes and make sure they have a plan.
Saturday, May 11 - theme† "Complete Your Written Plan." The time to prepare for a hurricane is NOW, before the season begins. Know where you will ride out the storm and get your supplies. You donít want to be standing in long lines when a storm is brewing.
